The first (of many no doubt) mod of the Cruiser took place today.
I bought a Parrot CK3100 around a year ago from eBay, forget how much it was, around the £90 mark or so, but a fantastic bit of kit.

Dead easy to use and boasts features such as voice activated dialing, bluetooth address book synchronisation and so on. Simply get in the car, turn on the ignition and the kit automatically pairs itself with your phone, no buttons need pressing on either the kit or the phone, simplicity itself.
Bit of a nightmare to install in a PT Cruiser though!
The original head unit in the car has one 22 pin plug on the back (plus antenna) and the Parrot kit has ISO connections.
Very unwilling to pay the proposed £50 for a harness adapter, I decided to make one myself. It was all going quite well, I was mapping out the wiring loom to the head unit, working out which wire did what, got all eight speaker wires sorted, permanent live, ignition live, dash board lights, no problems. It wasn't until I got to the mute side of things that bit of a problem developed.
When using the Parrot CK3100, if your phone rings, the kit sends a mute signal to your radio and then runs the telephone audio through your car speakers. The problem here is that Chrysler, for whatever reason, decided not to have a mute wire in their loom!
Even stranger was the fact that the head unit did actually support telephone mute and would cut the audio volume by about 90% and place the word "Call" on the display of the radio.
After a bit of deliberation, I fashioned a new wire into the OEM plug going into the back of the head unit, problem solved.
I've positioned the microphone at the top of the offside A pillar so it's out of the way and there are no wires in sight anywhere:
The digital display for the Parrot CK3100 has been mounted under the lower controls in the center of the dash:
All very smart looking and quite minimalist, the way it should be!
