This has to be one of the easiest mods to do, providing you get the right replacement lenses. The lenses used in this case are "Autobar 901U - Side Repeater Lens - Universal - Clear" and are available from your local Motor World for £7.99 or Passion Automotive for £3.99 and so you're sure you're getting the right ones, the packaging looks like this (click on any photo to enlarge it):
You will also be pleased to know that they are a DIRECT replacement for the existing Cruiser side repeaters. No wiring, no soldering, no drilling, no nothing. Inside the pack is everything you need, infact there is more than you need if fitting these to a PT Cruiser:
The kit includes two clear lenses, two bulb holders, two orange coloured bulbs and two double sided sticky foam pads. You can safely discard the bulb holders, you won't need them for the Cruiser.
Comparing these lenses against the OEM ones shows little difference. The clear ones are slightly larger, that's about it:
To remove the old orange lenses, get a small thin flat bladed screwdriver and insert it in the small gap under the existing lens:
This will allow you to push the release clip and the lens will just pop out.
Rotate the bulb holder 90 degrees to release it from the lens. Be careful at this point as there is very little wire to play with and if you let go of the wire it could disappear back inside the wing of the car, then you'll really be in trouble!
With the double sided pad stuck firmly onto the back of the new lens you can now fit the new lens to the existing bulb holder. To do this, simply slide the bulb holder into the lens and twist it back 90 degrees again to lock it on:
Be sure the surface is clean (sorry about the dirty car here!) and at this point you can now remove the backing tape from the double sided pad and stick the new lens firmly in place:
Once done, stand back and admire your handy work and another lack of orange on the outside of your motor:
